The Town

Amazing Movie! Way better than we both expected.  There were only a few things that kept this movie from being a 5 star rating for both of us.  One major thing we both agree on is that we both wish Casey Affleck had played the main character.  Neither of us are huge fans of Ben’s acting, but he does direct himself very well.. but we both feel that Casey would have brought a bit more to the role than his older brother did.  For the most part, everyone played their parts amazingly.. EVERYONE.

The Social Network

This movie is what happens when you take a brilliant writer like Aaron Sorkin, match it with David Fincher’s keen directing eye and throw in one of the best musical scores of the year.  The Social Network is sublimely acted with a relatively unknown cast (yes, we know JT was in it) who portray very relatable characters.  It hits it’s stride within the first 5 minutes and doesn’t stop until the credits roll.  This is definitely a film that stays with you for weeks after you watch it.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole

To be completely honest, I have been giving Alex crap about wanting to see this movie every since it hit theaters.  I just wasn’t very interested in seeing a movie about owls wearing armor.  After watching it for the first time the other night, I must say I was completely blown away.  It’s like Lord of The Rings, but with owls! The score, aside from a semi-cheesy montage to Owl City’s “To The Sky”, was lovely and every moment of the film was visually stunning with remarkable detail.  The story was never dull, though predictable at times, it kept me very entertained.  The voice acting alone blew me away with talents ranging from oscar winners, to the guy from that one movie, to unknowns. By the end, you knew that this movie was one that Zack Snyder was VERY passionate about making… even if it was about owls in armor.

Red

This movie was fun.  That is the best way I can think to describe it.  What made this movie so fun? John Malkovich.  Sure, Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Kyle Urban and Helen Mirren all added to the fun, but John Malkovich alone is enough reason to see this film.  His character is hilarious and his comedic timing is spot on.  Not good enough to make my list of top 10 movies seen in 2011, but entertaining enough for me to want it on bluray.
